Amalia Zelaya El-Masri

My paintings are visual poems that emanate from my imagination. They began in
my grandmother’s garden in Paraguay. I squeezed the juice of flowers and made
my own colors to invent a world of gardens and worlds beyond my surroundings.

Since I lived in a landlocked country, I would make little boats and float them in
streams hoping they would find their way to the sea. I learned during my formative
years that in spite of not having much, I could create my art within my means.

My work reflects the many stories in my life, especially my family, friends, and travel
to other countries and communities. My stories might be different from yours, but
we all share a common, human experience. I wish each viewer of my paintings and
sculptures to see their own hope, healing and happiness.
