Ann Marie Newman will talk about her concept of Interweaving during an interactive evening of stories, poetry, sound and more!

Interweaving song and poetry

Wonderful songs by Rita Joye Gray and Kristian Craig.

Thank you Piloto for remembering combing your grandmother’s hair as she rocked in a chair on the veranda of her home in Cuba. You painted a beautiful picture with words.

Beth Ayers recited her poems– “No Cuts” and “Green Grapes”.  We hope we will hear more from this gifted poet!

Thanks to all the other participants for their conversation which embellished our experience of all the stories, drawings, songs, and poems.

A special visit: Mama Njoki weaves a story

06/08/16 / johnlambertmarcucci / Uncategorized

At the Open House for Interweaving we had a very special contribution by Dr. Njoki McElroy.  Her affectionate moniker of Mama Njoki speaks to her warm human spirit.  She told us stories from her book, 1012 Natchez:  A Memoir of Grace, Hardship and Love.

Stories interweaving

We started to see the process of Interweaving as the stories continued and participants add their drawings.

Larry Lynn told a story of “Pacoima” growing up in the turf boundaries of biker gangs in Los Angeles.  He remembers very well the core law in the land of competing groups:  with respect comes no problems!  He recalls his fondest for a particular bike—The Vincent Black Shadow!

Elisabeth Schalij read from her recently published book, SnowBear. The text is derived from Inuit folktales she heard during her visit with them.  Elisabeth beautifully illustrated the book.

David DeSalvo read his vignette, The Driver.

Midge Lynn tells some stories

06/08/16 / johnlambertmarcucci / Uncategorized

We all heard of the passing of Muhammad Ali that morning.  Midge Lynn told a story about meeting him at the coffee counter in the Playboy Office building in Chicago. She chatted with him for over a half hour–an beautiful man who was very

charming!Midge's story Midge Lynn telling a story at Interweaving.

Her recall of meeting celebrities led her to the story of meeting Coretta Scott King and Rosa Parks the day Daisaku Ikeda, President of the Soka Gakkai International, brought them by for a visit to Soka University in California where Midge was working at the time.

Interweaving has begun!

Ann Marie Newman, Artist-in-Residence at Haley-Henman Gallery this summer, has begun the interactive, site specific, immersive and performance artwork titled, Interweaving.  This past Saturday, June 4th, she held an Open House for anyone who wanted to tell a story, draw or write.  The process was non-stop from noon to 5 pm.  Here are some highlights.

Jiann Powers started the process with the telling of a Swedish folk tale, Three Wishes.
