Angelia Ford Waves of Acceptance
Statement by Angelia Ford: Waves of Acceptance depicts the varying degrees of acceptance and intolerance that gay individuals have faced throughout multiple civilizations. Mesolithic rock art in Italy, dating from 9660 to 5000 BCE, shows males engaged in homosexual acts, pointing to the acceptance in this society. Acceptance of homosexuality is still evident centuries later in Greece, during the 7th century BCE. By the 4th Century, views began changing based on religious doctrines. Fast forward centuries later to the 1980s and multiple countries, including Sweden and Western Australia, begin passing laws that legalize homosexuality. My work brings us to the present day and through my use of encaustic and graphite, I depict the discrimination and emotional toll that is incurred daily.
