Summer Series 11
Pierre Durand, Brenda McKinney, Bob Nunn, and Krystal Read

July 23 - August 27, 2011

DALLAS, Texas (July 7, 2011)--Haley-Henman announces its fourth consecutive Summer Series, Summer Series 11, a group show of four artists:  Pierre Durand, Brenda McKinney, Bob Nunn and Krystal Read.  This exhibition highlights the emerging artists Pierre Durand, Brenda McKinney and Krystal Read with the awesome experience that Bob Nunn brings to his recent paintings.

Although this exhibition is not theme based, Mr. Nunn’s statement opens the door for our general orientation:

“Like you, I am influenced by all that I have ever seen or heard or felt.
My images are from my mind--mostly from imagination--and they are
shaped and colored with a whole lifetime of things remembered.”

His affinity of working in series, and often series within a series, is a guide for viewing his work and the works of these emerging artists.  Bob Nunn’s recent paintings explore the concept of what he calls his “aerial landscapes”, specifically expressing this concept in a series of “fractal” abstractions.

Pierre Durand began his series in September 2009 with the intent of exploring the “links” of close or strained ties of love, or the burdens and relationships to other generations, and the links between heath and body.  He uses the media of manipulating canvases by stacking them, connecting them, and draping them to express the emotional and intellectual linking of person to person.  Haley-Henman previewed one work from this series entitled, Communication, at the Favorites and Previews exhibition at the being of this year.

Brenda McKinney presents a series of seven Chakras, the Indian concept of spiritual power having seven distinct centers in the body.  She explores this concept in three dimensions using a variety of media, particularly by altering books into shapes and colors.  She came to this series by a meditative journey to resolve negativity and raise her spiritual consciousness.

Having just returned from an art residency in Canada, Krystal Read’s most recent work demonstrates the fictions and fantasies of memory.  With works on paper, assemblages, sculptures and installation, she explores the fondness of memories embedded in everyday objects.  She recalls her motivation:

“After stumbling upon a collection of old photographs at an
antique store, I was drawn by the mystery of the photos.
The discarded treasures that clutter our attics...inspire me
to investigate and imbue these objects with my own fantasies”.

Gallery hours are Wednesday through Saturday, noon to five and by appointment.
The gallery is located at 2335 Hardwick Street, Dallas, Texas.  Traveling west from downtown Dallas, take the third left on to Hardwick Street after crossing the Trinity River on Commerce Street.  The gallery is near the new Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge designed by Santiago Calatrava.  Please call 214-749-1277 or info@haleyhenman.com. ###
