A Solo Exhibition of New Paintings by Carol Barth
October 22 - November 26, 2011

DALLAS, Texas (August 22, 2011)--Haley-Henman proudly presents Carol Barth's solo exhibition of new paintings entitled Light and Motion. This exhibition opens with a reception for Ms. Barth on Saturday, October 22 from 6:00-9:00 pm, and will continue until November 26, 2011. The reception and exhibition are free and open to the public.
This solo exhibition is the third exhibition by Ms. Barth at Haley-Henman this year. The two previous exhibitions, as part of group shows, previewed her earlier collections of mixed media works on paper. Her first exhibition emphasized her fascination with colorful abstractions that portrayed strong lines and spaces with architectural references to houses and villages along the seacoast. The second exhibition highlighted her mixed media monotypes that explored her minimal gesture of line and color fields. Her participation in these two group shows was an intentional overture for Light and Motion.
Carol Barth's new paintings are in the media of oil on canvas. Her painterly gesture builds upon layers of color that present a transforming perspective. The abstraction is minimal and yet Ms. Barth maintains the tension of composition and vibrancy of color in a single stroke. It is upon these flat surfaces where Ms. Barth opens our view to light and motion.
Carol Barth strikes the canvas with brush stokes that evoke an intense energy for the freedom of expression. These new paintings are a testimony to her strong self-confidence of knowing the power of gesture in paint. It is with this new perspective that we can view references to earlier works that are transformative. For Carol Barth light and motion are not soft glowing aftermaths of a sunset, or the glare of passing headlights on the highway. Light and motion are interior reflections that abstract the light of spirituality. Motion is the path one takes. These paintings are personal statements that provide a universal reflection on our own light and motion.
This exhibition marks the fourth anniversary of Haley-Henman's grand opening in October 2007. The gallery is located at 2335 Hardwick Street, Dallas, Texas 75208. Heading west from downtown Dallas on Main Street, cross over the Trinity River and take the third left onto Hardwick Street.
