DALLAS, Texas (May 27, 2011)—As we approach the time for the opening of the new Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge, designed by Santiago Calatrava, Haley-Henman proudly presents Connections, a collaborative art installation by the artists of Haley-Henman, their associates, volunteers, and community members. This singular art experience is part of an ongoing process to bridge communities by acknowledging and making connections of time and place with each other. Located at 301 Singleton Boulevard, Dallas, Texas 75212, the art experience, Connections, is free and open to the public on two weekends in October: 14-16, and 21-23, 2011. It is suitable for all ages.
Connections invites the greater Dallas community’s participation in the art process according to a plan designed by the core artists. In this sense, Connections is a performance work, or art as action. It is also a conceptual work. The general orientation emphasizes the participant/viewers connections to place, time, people and events. The social and cultural contexts form the milieu of a passage from the past to the future.
Connections is conceived as an art installation for a specific site and event. It celebrates the new bridge connecting the Dallas Art District to West Dallas. In many ways, the bridge calls attention to the very different socio-cultural areas of our urban center.
Connections speaks to this new architectural icon as a symbol denoting our relationships in place and time. The site of the installation is generously sponsored by West Dallas Investments.
The Core artists are the following: Francisco Aguilar, Betsy Daves Bass, Jenny Birge, Anthony Bolton, Nicole Bolton, David Clanton, Dorothy Clarke, Michael Courtney, Dave DeSalvo, Pierre Durand, Anne Marie Evans, Amalia Zelaya El-Masri, Gisa Elwazir, Jeanine Flatman, Lee Hill, Ryan Hill, Bob Johnson, Jane Kleve, KeLaine Kvale, Cindy Lefferts, Bob Little, Midge Lynn, Anita McConnell, John Marcucci, Paul O’Briant, Liz Olsson, Barbara O’Toole, Ken O’Toole, Karen Piloto, Marsha Prior, Ernesto Rodriguez, Mario Ruvacalbo, Esther Ritz, Alan Robertson, Elisabeth Schalij, Andrea Sethi, Anjuli Sethi, Madeleine Terry, Jack Tyson, and Nancy Ungerman.
