ART OFF THE WALL
Juried Membership Show
Celebrating Texas Sculpture Association’s
25th Anniversary and 2008 Symposium

DALLAS, Texas—September 3, 2008---Haley-Henman Gallery proudly presents the Texas Sculpture Association’s juried membership exhibition entitled, ART OFF THE WALL, celebrating its 25th Anniversary and 2008 Symposium.  The opening reception for the artists will be on Wednesday, September 17, from 6:30 to 9:30 pm.  The exhibition will continue until November 8, 2008.  Eliseo, a noted public sculptor, will be the juror of seventeen selected TSA sculptors.

The sculptures selected for this exhibition are modern contemporary and range in medium from steel, stone, wood, glass, ceramic, wax and other mixed combinations.  The seventeen selected sculptors for this show are the following:  Jason LaJudice, Kelli Howie, Cynthia Daniel, Keith Livingston, Brad Abrams, Laura Walters Abrams, Jerry Dodd, Nan Phillips, Mirtha Aertker, Cassandra Fink, Carolann Haggard, Valery Guignon, Gisela-Heidi Strunck, Jay Silber, Annelies Christain, and Chris Blackhurst.

Three visual artists are providing an exciting setting for the sculptures:  Steve Prachyl, Lane Banks and Brett H. Schneider.  Prachyl grinds aluminum metal panels into three-dimensional perspectives of “distinct movement constrained by crisp form and fast flowing lines”.  By using fine abrasives, Prachyl makes billions of scratches that take on their own reflectivity.  The viewer, the environment and the sculptures of this show all become part of this reflective interplay.

Banks’ works are conceptual ideas, based on theoretical deductions rather than from observations that he creates in different medium.  These visual objects are self-referential; that is, they make reference to themselves and Banks’ other works, particularly as the viewer moves through the gallery.

Schneider brings a lyrical expressionism with his watercolors based on experience of the lagoon at the Kwajalein Atoll in the Marshall Islands.  These three visual artists provide a context, movement, and punctuation to view the best of Texas sculpture.  These works are lyrical, playful, reflective, bold, adventurous, tactile, and thought provoking.

Haley-Henman will be having a series of receptions celebrating the jury awards, and several conversations with the artists of this show.  We welcome your participation.
