DALLAS, Texas (November 3, 2011)--Haley-Henman proudly presents Anthony Bolton's solo show, Selling It Big. This exhibition opens with a reception for Mr. Bolton on Saturday, December 3 from 6:00-9:00 pm, and continues until January 7, 2012. The reception and exhibition are free and open to the public.
Sex sells. And in this day and age, it sells everything; cars and hamburgers, shampoo and lite beer, children's clothing and football tickets. But sex is more than just glossy wrapping paper used by advertising agencies. Sex is our modern world philosophy, stock and trade. It's our currency and measuring stick for value. Be hotter. Look younger. Perform better.
Selling It Big is Anthony Bolton's reactions to sexual exploitation. His work delves into society's decaying morals and values. He questions how artistry and craftsmanship have been replaced by attitude and corporate sponsored style. The marketed "realities" of image and identity are products we consume vicariously from our sofa.
Selling It Big is an ode to building a bigger world while it's simultaneously falling apart around us. Mr. Bolton plays the idiom of glossing over the rough edges and applying a fresh coat of make-up to hide the scars. He confronts sex appeal's gaudy byproduct--bloated Hollywood wrapped in cellophane.
Anthony Bolton began this body of work in early 2011. The exhibit features numerous new paintings, as well as works in various forms and mediums, including life-size mannequins, giant wooden puzzles, and the title piece, a twenty-eight foot mural in mixed media.
The gallery is located at 2335 Hardwick Street, Dallas, Texas 75208. Heading west from downtown Dallas on Main Street, cross over the Trinity River and take the third left onto Hardwick Street. The gallery is open Wednesday through Saturday, noon to 5:00 pm, and by appointment for your convenience. The gallery will be closed on December 24 and 31 for the Holidays. Please call 214-749-1277.
